Portugal Wine Trophy: Beira Interior Edition
Beira Interior is renowned for its unique landscape, characterized by majestic mountains such as Estrela, Gardunha, Marofa, and Malcata, as well as vast plains. The predominantly granite soils, interlaced with slate and quartz veins, create ideal conditions for winemaking. The region experiences a harsh climate with hot, dry summers and very cold winters, which impart a unique character to the wines.
The vineyards are situated between 300 and 750 meters above sea level, greatly influencing the quality and flavor of the wines. The cool nights promote slow and even ripening of the grapes, while the intense sunlight during the day leads to a higher concentration of aromas and colors.
The submitted wines are tasted and evaluated by a professional and independent jury in a fantastic atmosphere; this provides the perfect setting for the outstanding wines submitted by participants each year. As organizers of the Portugal Wine Trophy, we are honored to host the Portugal Wine Trophy 2024 in Beira Interior, and we look forward to collaborating with the Comissão Vitivinícola Regional da Beira Interior and the municipality of Guarda in organizing this great wine competition. This region embodies the beauty and diversity of Portugal and is a truly inspiring place to explore the world of wine.
Portugal's most important wine challenge
Since 2014, the Portugal Wine Trophy has been one of the most important wine challenges in Portugal. At the end of April, wine connoisseurs from around the world meet in Anadia, in the wine region of Bairrada. For 3 days in a row, from behind closed doors, the top jury tastes noble wines from international vintners and importers and mark their points. Only the best products are awarded Grand Gold, Gold, or Silver.
