23rd Berliner Wine Trophy – Winter Edition:

World’s largest OIV wine competition, setting the benchmark in 2019

During 2018, the Berliner Wine Trophy exceeded the mark of 13,500 wine samples submitted.

The largest and most important wine contest in Germany, the Berliner Wine Trophy, in its Winter Edition, has started the year proving its robust leadership on german and global wine industry. In this occasion, due to the large amount of submissions, the organizers decided to prematurely close the enrollment period in order to maintain its high-quality standards. However, the “BWT” beated its own record reaching nothing less than 7,594 submitted wines.

Tasting so many samples would be impossible without an expert Jury Panel -consisting of 227 international and independent experts, such as sommeliers, masters of wines, enologues, etc.- which objectively rated the products. As a result, 21 Grand Gold medals, 1,985 Gold medals, and 256 Silver medals were awarded.

The Berliner Wine Trophy is organized under the Patronage of the OIV, the UIOE, and the VINOFED which, combined with its own rules such as notary supervision, makes this tasting probably the most strictly controlled wine contest worldwide. Unlike other competitions, only 30% of the products submitted can receive a medal. This restriction promotes quality and proves that a Wine Trophy medal is a real honor.
