23rd Berliner Wein Trophy – Winter Edition:
World’s largest OIV wine competition, setting the benchmark in 2019
During 2018, the Berliner Wein Trophy exceeded the mark of 13,500 wine samples submitted.
The largest and most important wine contest in Germany, the Berliner Wein Trophy, in its Winter Edition, has started the year proving its robust leadership on german and global wine industry. In this occasion, due to the large amount of submissions, the organizers decided to prematurely close the enrollment period in order to maintain its high-quality standards. However, the “BWT” beated its own record reaching nothing less than 7,450 submitted wines.
Tasting so many samples would be impossible without an expert Jury Panel -consisting of 227 international and independent experts, such as sommeliers, masters of wines, enologues, etc.- which objectively rated the products. As a result, 21 Grand Gold medals, 1,985 Gold medals, and 256 Silver medals were awarded.
Fernando Gurucharri, president of the Spanish Wine Tasters Union (UEC) and representative of VINOFED, stated:
“The Berliner Wein Trophy is an industry benchmark in terms of perfect organisation and management and serves as a real time thermometer to measure the current state of the wine industry”.
