Berliner Wine Trophy 2018 – Summer Edition:

The largest wine contest in Germany beats its own record

During 2018, the Berliner Wine Trophy has set once again new stardards with over 13,500 submissions.

The widely known contest Berliner Wine Trophy, in its Summer Edition, has again demonstrated the leading role which it plays in the wine industry. In this occasion, 6,172 products from 42 countries entered the competition, thus beating its own record from last year. Thanks to the experience of the Jury Panel -consisting of 190 international and independent experts in the sector- 1,861 still wines, sparkling wines, and liquor wines were awarded. Nevertheless, it is still far away from the 7,000+ entries of the Winter Edition in February.

Due to the restrictive OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine) guidelines, only 30% of the products submitted could receive a medal. In this regard, Mr. Henk Gibramczik -Director of Wine Trophies at Deutsche Wein Marketing GmbH- stated:

“The restriction of the OIV to 30% promotes quality and shows the consumer that a Berliner Wine Trophy medal is a great honor”.

Since its OIV patronage in 2004, the competition has grown to become Germany’s largest and most important international wine tasting with over 13,500 submitted samples yearly. That surely has to do with the added value that this event brings to the participants in terms of quality, rigor, and reliability. According to a study carried out by the University of Geisenheim (where the best wine experts from Germany are educated), the Berliner Wine Trophy is the best-known international competition among German consumers.
