Portugal Wine Trophy 2019:

Portugal's largest international wine tasting, under OIV patronage

Portugal Wine Trophy continues to build a leadership position in the wine industry, gaining more and more confidence from participants and consumers in every edition.

In May 2014, about 50 professionals from the wine industry gathered to taste and evaluate more than 1,000 wines from around the world. Thus, the largest wine competition in the whole country was born, the Portugal Wine Trophy. The sixth edition has just concluded at the Bairrada Wine Museum in Anadia, where almost 2,200 still, sparkling and liqueur wines have been tasted by a team of highly qualified international juries. Due to the “30% rule”, there have been a total of 656 award-winning wines, including 12 Grand Gold medals, demonstrating the enormous quality of the samples, despite the stringent standards.

Everyone agreed, once again, on the professionalism and good organization of the tasting. This can only be so, since the Portugal Wine Trophy is the most strictly controlled contest in the country; it is the only one under the patronage of the OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine) and the UIOE (International Union of Oenologists), as well as a member of the VINOFED (World Federation of Grand Oenological Competitions).

Such factors increase not only the number of participants each edition, which has multiplied by 2 in the last 5 years, but also the confidence in the contest by the final consumers, who see and recognize the medal in supermarkets and online wine stores.

In this edition, it was also remarkable the enormous media coverage, which has put the Portugal Wine Trophy in the spotlight. Not only in social networks, but also in the main national TV channels, where it has reaped good levels of reception by the audience.
