Wine Trophies: Special Awards

Being awarded in one of our wine challenges is a true honor since only the best receive a medal. Unlike other wine contests, just 30% of the tasted wines can be awarded (according to OIV rules). However, we wanted to go one step further and recognize the best of the best. For this, we grant the Special Awards, where we highlight the best participants of each category and country.

Details of the Special Awards

With the Special Awards, DWM introduced in 2015 additional medals in order to highlight the best participants and wines of the Wine Trophies, which are included within the best 30% (as per OIV rules) thus, having official recognition at international level. These prizes are awarded in each of our competitions, with small differences concerning the categories but with the same demanding conditions.

In the case of Berliner Wine Trophy, the Special Awards are only granted in the Winter Edition. In order for the results of the Summer Edition to take effect in the rating of Special Awards, the medals of the awarded products in Summer Trophy will be included in next year’s Special Award evaluation. If a wine wins a medal in both Wine Trophies (Summer Edition and next year’s Winter Edition), only the one of higher value will be taken into consideration for the evaluation of Special Awards.

Categories and Requirements

Below you will find the main categories and conditions that apply to Special Awards:

Best Wine

• Best Wine:
– the highest score in its category, at least gold medal

Best Producer

• Best Producer “still wine” in a country:
– at least 3 gold medals

• Best Producer “sparkling wine” in a country:
– at least 3 gold medals

Best Cooperative

• Best Cooperative in a country:
– at least 5 gold medals

Best Importer

• Best Importer in a country:
– at least 6 gold medals from 3 different producers

• Best Importer of Berliner Wein Trophy:
– at least 12 gold medals from at least 8 producers from 6 different countries

Best Specialist Trader

• Best Specialist Trader in a country:
– at least 6 gold medals from 3 different producers

• Best Specialist Trader International:
– at least 12 gold medals from at least 8 producers from 6 different countries

• Best Specialist Trader Online:
– at least 12 gold medals from at least 8 producers from 6 different countries

Best Discounter

• Best Discounter:
– at least 12 gold medals from at least 8 producers from 6 different countries

The reviews

All the products awarded at the Wine Trophies will be considered in the reviews. Those categories where the minimum requirements have not been met will be ignored.
